The K*I*S*S* Fitness Club

PictureSteve on "Horizontal" Exerciser
My home gym in Norwich, NY, is now open to the public in the form of a fitness club.  I call it the K*I*S*S* Fitness Club.

Presently, the gym is equipped with “horizontal” and “vertical” K*I*S*S* Exercisers as well as a K*I*S*S* Leg Press Machine.

The gym is located in the sun porch of my home and it is a very pleasing place in which to exercise.  It is not necessary to enter my home in order to access the gym.

By using the K*I*S*S* Exercisers and the K*I*S*S* Leg Press Machine together, it is possible for a person to get a complete full-body strength workout.  And, amazingly, the workout is only 30 to 45 minutes long.

The equipment in the gym is especially suited to the strength exercise needs of senior citizens.  There is very little danger of injury when using the K*I*S*S* Exercisers because, as soon as any pain or discomfort is felt, all a person has to do is stop exerting effort and resistance he/she feels will go to zero.  In addition, anyone of any ability can use the equipment and benefit from it.  Amazingly, one size fits all!

The use of this equipment provides three important benefits.  It increases strength, builds muscle, and strengthens bones.  There is also the general physiological benefit that goes along with increased circulation of blood throughout a person’s body.  Finally, from a psychological point of view, it is well-known that regular exercise leads to an increased feeling of well-being --- and might even make a person smile more!

All members of the Club must use the gym in accordance with an agreed-upon schedule, usually three days per week with an hour session reserved for each member (or pair of members).  In addition, Club members MUST adhere to a prescribed exercise routine for at least a six-month period.  This routine starts out easy and gradually works up to a serious workout that is individually tailored for each Club member.  Members will receive printed material describing the purpose of the exercises and the use of the equipment.  A member will be held by the hand as he/she progresses through the six-week program.  After completion of this initial program, with my consent, it might be possible for a Club member to customize his/her exercise program.

I am a Certified Personal Trainer with additional training related to “older adults.”  On a practical level, and much more important, I have over 65 years of experience with various forms of athletics including both strength and cardio activities and, even at an advanced age, am still competitive as a runner in my age group.  Training at the Club is truly “personal.”  I am on hand for every exercise session and devote my full attention to the member using the exercise equipment.  So, there will always be feedback and a Club member will always have the opportunity to ask questions.

Although only a few people would be using the gym at any one time, my hope is that everyone who joins the Club would become acquainted with one another.  This could happen by means of informal walks/runs at the YMCA track or at the track at the local soccer field.  Social events are another possibility.

It is very helpful in any fitness program to have an exercise partner.  I can fulfill this role in part as your personal trainer.  However, it is great to have a peer to exercise with.  Ideally, there will always be two members of the Club exercising in the gym at the same time.

The first week of membership in the Club is FREE.  This is a trial period to see if the gym is what a person is looking for and to ensure that we would be comfortable working with each other.  Following the trial period, the membership fee is flexible --- within reasonable limits.  If a person likes the gym, I don’t want to discourage him/her from joining the Club.

My best wishes in your quest for health and fitness,
